I highly recommend using this or any other generic AC adapter for a Dell laptop. The connection is not secure, but it will charge for a while and then only charge in a specific position if the computers are placed in a specific position. Mine didn't charge once so I said it like I usually do and went on deck and my Dell laptop caught fire due to the universal AC adapter. If you need a Dell laptop power adapter, go to Dell and buy an actual power adapter for your laptop. I have the right power. Fire. So be aware that it could be a cheaper power supply, or you need a power supply right now and all you can get is a new generic one, but it will cost you more in the long run.
