Review on Canon PowerShot ELPH 100 HS 12 MP CMOS Digital Camera With 4X Optical Zoom (Orange) by Megan Edwards

Amazing picture quality! Bad processing quality!

UPDATE: A little over a year after purchase, the camera accidentally turned on in the housing. Since the lens extends automatically when the power is turned on, this pushes the lens against the inside of the body. As a result, the lens jammed, and the ever-useful message "Lens reading error” appeared on the screen. While it's not Canon's fault that the camera was turned on inside the body, as pocket cameras are usually carried around, a little more staying power would be nice. Perhaps a delicate mechanism that retracts the lens under pressure could have prevented this. Original post: Bought as a present for my wife. I chose this camera over other pocket cameras because it was the only camera at the time with a CMOS sensor instead of the standard CCD sensor. The CMOS sensor is commonly used in digital SLR cameras (large cameras used by photographers). Thanks to this sensor, it easily takes better pictures than many 14 and even 16 megapixel cameras. The optical zoom might not be very big, but don't worry. Just make sure your subject is in the frame. Then enlarge or enlarge the photo after it is taken. You will be surprised how clear the picture will be. Other great features include a switch on top for quickly toggling between auto and custom scene settings, white balance, ISO sensitivity, and other such settings. Another added bonus is the video capture button. You don't have to switch to video mode, just press the record button and the camera will do the rest. The sound recorded during the video is normal as it is monaural as there is only one microphone, but the picture quality of the video is excellent. Due to its small size, it fits easily in your pocket, although my wife usually carries it in her purse.

Pros
  • Full HD 1080p video for exceptional quality and footage stabilized with Dynamic IS.
Cons
  • Weight
