I have owned and cared for several cats with almost 50 years of adult experience - both in my own home and more than a dozen years caring for cats at two veterinary clinics. and a large SPCA facility. This has given me the opportunity to work with countless different brands and types of fillers and to make a multitude of comparisons - and I feel well qualified to share my opinion on the subject. :-) In the last few years I have had six indoor cats that live exclusively in the house. and two combination kennel-pen-free-range cats who work as rodent control officers. However, RCO also has litter boxes when the weather requires them to be confined to the indoor cattery area, so we have a total of eight kittens that need litter. We used high brand bedding that is only available at major pet stores and online. So we didn't supply cheaper brands to cats that had low expectations from the start. The thing is decent, I had no particular complaints about it. So, I really have no idea why I suddenly decided to try the Boxiecat other than wondering why the manufacturers think it's worth such a high price tag. To be honest, it was a whim. I installed a boxiecat box for a house cat and left the other "as is". (I only have 2 indoor boxes, but from a small US manufacturer, they are absolutely huge and definitely big enough for 3 cats each). Boxiecat was the number one choice for ALL cats! I'm not sure what exactly she's attracted to. It's definitely a lot softer on her little feet, so that's probably part of it. As for MY side, I found it to be easier to clean than any other junk I can think of and the smell from it is not noticeable. And the need to add extra stuffing to the box has been greatly reduced as the days go by. For me and my cats it's worth the extra money. And if I have to use it less than my previous brand, it lowers the overall cost, making the price increase relatively small. I'm so glad I tried it!
