*Update below*. After I bought a third adapter and had a similar issue, I found that the laptop vendor's drivers had fixed all of these issues. Installed a set of drivers from the manufacturer (HP, Lenovo) and tested the adapter again - the problem is solved. Adapters work great. A must for today's USB-c and array laptops are connectivity devices. Very satisfied, it's a very useful and portable adapter, but it doesn't work with every laptop. I have a new (2021) Lenovo laptop and it works great. I have an HP laptop from the same year and a 2019 HP laptop and the HDMI port is not working. I have an older model of a similar type of adapter for HP 2019 and it works on all models so just don't check compatibility and test before first use. I would buy this adapter again because it is great for my application.
