We installed it in a piece of plywood which my husband cut a hole in and then placed under the window. Significant savings by buying everything. Maybe it's not weather protection for us, but in winter we just take it out. He also built a katio on our back porch so they use that door to get outside freely. I love that it's lockable so we can prevent them from going outside when it's too cold. You can also set it up to block one way instead of the other (for us we set it up so it doesn't block them if they push out, they can push back). Or let's say your kitty goes outside but you want the door locked when he comes back. you can do it too It was a great purchase for us! Update January 27th: The seal broke and my two kittens were left outside. Luckily we were at home and could hear them scratching at the door. We removed it entirely to prevent this from happening again. I tried hot glue but it made it too thick and the door didn't swing freely. So I filmed the weather report again. Slightly disappointed as a weather bug has actually locked them twice and we can no longer leave the Catio door open when we are not home for fear they will be locked from the outside.
