Does what it says on the tin

TLDR: Saved me from a bad sunburn on the beach in San Diego! I would buy it again. Took the kids to grandparents in San Diego the week of July 4th. The grandparents bought the kids boogie boards, so the kids just wanted to go to the beach. We arrived in town on Saturday night so we were at the beach on Sunday morning. Now I'm the definition of a pale white guy. If you look up "bright white guy" in the dictionary, you'll find a picture of me waving at you. That's why I usually hate the beach. I bring my massive umbrella, I have several swim shirts whose main purpose is to protect me from the sun. I ALWAYS wear a chunky hat and after years of work I've figured out what sunscreens work and apply them liberally every hour (they're zinc based so I'm basically paler and paler by the end of the day). Day). beach than at the beginning!). And to top it all off, I STILL only go out in the sun for 20-30 minutes at a time. (My wife HATES taking me to the beach. They (and my kids) are all water and sun lovers.) So I used ALL of these methods this Sunday as my kids were frolicking in the surf with sunscreen on. By the end of that Sunday I was FRIED. (The UV index without water reflection was 10.6, almost twice as high!) The only parts of the body that were NOT fried were those covered by the swim shirt. Not only that, both my kids and my wife (who slathered themselves heavily in sunscreen) ALSO got fried (the first real sunburn any of my kids have ever gotten in their lives!). Even my mother-in-law, who has lived in San Diego all her life and hasn't had a sunburn since the Nixon days, got sunburned. Hell, I was somewhere near the sand again. So my wife goes looking for Revane and finds this shirt. I made sure it had a hood because my throat was roasted. We didn't want to spend a lot of money just in case it sucks, so we order it from Prime. The next day we skip the beach and go to the zoo where everyone gets their sunburn treated. The next day we all hide in the house, squeal like vampires when we see daylight, and lo and behold, Revane comes out with this shirt. 16.5"/37" shirt and 44L jacket, just for reference and I ordered size XL) #3 - He does what he says (see below!) So back to the beach the next day. The UV index is back at 10.6! I oil it up, put it on, and when the surf's high I help the kids brawl on the boogie boards. I'm lazy. I've been in the water for over an hour several times. I keep forgetting to put on sunscreen. I'm coming home, I'm not burned. The next day (July 4th) we're back on the beach with a million of our closest strangers, I put my shirt on, skipping sunscreen, straight into the surf. At one point I was there for 2.5 hours straight. By the end of the day I had some paint on my shoulders and upper back (not burned but not a faded white either). Not bad if you don't use sunscreen and spend more than 7 hours a day in the sun (12 in two days). Bottom Line: Do you retain a pale white color after standing in the blistering desert or sea sun for 12 straight hours? I doubt it. Does it do what it says and behave like SPF 50 so you can actually go out and act like a human? Yes! Would I buy it again? - Absolutely!
