Overall impression: This product is a great solution for most people. The magnetic grip works effectively in most situations. The adjustability leaves a lot to be desired as the mount has its drawbacks, but I won't give up mine. I bought one for home, one for travel and chose it as a gift for my entire team at a recent meeting. They're all so thankful that there's finally an easy solution to driving while using your phone to navigate. How it works: This device must have a CD slot to connect it, there are no other options. If your car does not have a CD slot, this product is not for you. The mount works like this: you insert a couple of "fins" or tabs into your CD player slot, then tighten the thumbscrew until the tabs release, and grasp the inside of the slot. It's worth noting that the tabs on the CD slot will pry up as you tighten the thumbscrew. I haven't seen any evidence and I'm not worried about damaging my CD player by not using it. If you don't overtighten the thumbscrew, you won't damage the CD player, but that's the tricky part. If you don't tighten it enough it will wobble (mine came loose and fell out), but if you overtightened (which I did) you could either damage the CD player or break the plastic (like with me). did) so that it could no longer be used. I had to buy replacements. However, just tighten it and then stop. It's also worth noting that it would be inconvenient to use your CD player with this installed, as you'll have to uninstall and reinstall it every time you switch discs. I don't listen to CDs in the car so it's not a problem for me. The device comes with small metal pads - one with adhesive and one without - that can either be attached to the device or inserted between the case and the device. The bond between the magnet is very strong. The problem I have is that when you put the plate in a phone case (which completely hides it) the thickness and material of the case has a big impact on grip. You can simply glue the metal plate to the outside of the case with glue, but in some cases this is not an option as the glue doesn't bond well to the plastic. If you use Apple's silicone case, it works great. If you use a thick case like a battery case or a leather case, you will have some problems. I attached one to the outside of my Mophie style heavy case and even with the weight of the iPhone 6S+ and Mophie case the outer panel keeps everything secure. I love: ease of use. Once in the CD slot and tightened and then set to tilt, simply remove your phone from your pocket/purse, press against the magnet and away you go. It's so nice every time it grabs and I've been using it for about three years now. I wish these things were different: The angle of the magnetic attachment can be temperamental. It doesn't have a "permanent" setting, it's all friction-based temporary settings (like your car's rear-view mirror). So after use I always seem to bang the angle out of the desired angle and have to readjust it every ride. (Imagine knocking over your rearview mirror every time you got out of your car and having to dust every time you got in) - so it would be nice to be able to BLOCK it (maybe install screws?), But that's a minor complaint. more things. They make BIG gifts. (Make sure the receiver has a CD slot) because not only is it cool and practical and under $20, but it shows your loved ones that you don't want them driving around looking at their phone on their lap . I ordered a dozen last Christmas and they were perfect for the neighbors or last minute gifts you hadn't thought of.
