I give 3 stars for learning as it really is more of a physical toy. We didn't have any problems with her. Because it's wood, moisture and air conditioning will cause it to swell and shrink, making some of the holes bigger or smaller, making them harder to punch in or too loose. I believe the toy was designed so that different pins would be easier to hit and some harder for the physical work and mental aspect of hitting a lighter or stronger hammer.
