Sponge SuperStar - Sponges

, I never gave much thought to the sponge, the nondescript household gadget that somehow became the workhorse in our cleaning arsenals, that is, until I moved on my own and had to buy it. I quickly learned a thing or two about sponges. They're not as cheap as you think, and these damn things just aren't going to last long. A few weeks at best. They also smell awful if you don't clean them often, and you should also avoid using certain brands of dishwashing detergent, which make them smell even worse. I find that the cheapest green or pink Palmolive dishwashing liquid does the best job of dealing with sponge smell and all other brands don't. I also know that the fibers used to make the cleaning side of the sponges are petroleum based and not environmentally friendly. These Ittaho sponges are fully compostable and use natural cellulose, a sustainable wood product, to make the soft side of the sponge and coconut fiber to make the cleaning side. Coir has been used for centuries to clean things without scratching them, and these sponges are thicker, wider and longer than standard Scotch Brite or O'Cedar by about half. So far, a week later, they seem to be tougher and more durable than the big brands. I also like yellow and brown. They look cool and feel solid in my hand. Tactile sensations are important because they provide a good grip. You can use these sponges for almost anything, and they seem to require less cleaning and maintenance than branded stores. What can I say other than buying a dozen of these today!
