I never tried this product like the others in the 80's so I can't compare. I styled the bangs lightly. Applying this product to your bangs gives a messy look that I love and try to achieve. The problem is that if I don't use hairspray, the bangs will be on my face in a few minutes. I'm not a fan of hairspray anymore. So I use it to keep my bangs to fall back and look nice and to keep them from flattening I trim them. My hair is very thick and very heavy. Even if you have short, fine and layered hair I still don't see this product holding up strong enough to last all day. I suppose if you grow or reshape your hair it might work but I would expect it to break down after a while and you still need a spray to hold it in place. What pleases me the most is how a small amount makes my bangs, that the scent is soft and not overpowering, and that it washes out easily. I have never noticed any build up after using a small amount of this for a few days.
