Review on Hyperkin Duke Wired Controller Windows Limited by Megan Lucas

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I bought two of these, here is my review after a few years of use.

First a warning to other reviewers: DON'T EARN POINTS BECAUSE THERE IS NO WIRELESS COMMUNICATION. This is Microsoft's decision, they don't allow third party wireless controllers and have nothing to do with Hyperkin. With that in mind, cons first: the only reason I took off a star is for two reasons: if you travel with it even somewhat frequently, I do what I do and I often have to do it on the controller side, the plastic case (or whatever - something else I'm not sure what) wears out after a while and you might find the controller disconnecting from small movements you make. I had to replace it. If that was the only issue I wouldn't deduct a star as the cable is a cheap replacement, but the plastic center button/screen cover is also cheap and scratches very easily, which is an odd design choice given the quality. the rest of the controller, and I completely disassembled and reassembled the thing so I have a better idea than most. Now for what's good about it. The controller itself is an updated and higher quality version of the original Duke, minus the previously mentioned issues. For example, the original Duke had spring mechanisms in the triggers that offered too much resistance and would wear out over time. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who doesn't have big hands, but for me, a 6ft 3in male with big hands (ignore my name, this is a family account), this is the only controller I'm comfortable using. more than an hour. The shoulder buttons aren't the biggest in size or placement, but they're not bad either. I don't really blame Hyperkin for that, because all they're trying to do is retrofit the Duke, which originally didn't have shoulder buttons, so given what they're working with, they've done their best and I doubt it. anyone else could have done better. In fact, I would only recommend this to people who love Duke or have big hands. It's a niche thing, but for that niche it's REALLY good.
