Received the set yesterday. First, be careful when opening; Do not pass the knife through the middle of the box to cut the tape. You will rush into the product. There is no protection. The color is a nice rich black and honestly doesn't look like faux leather. I use both for a tiered footstool/footstool under my desk so I don't expect them to see much abuse. Both are durable, but I can't comment on durability yet. The larger unit's flip tablet is durable. The big one has a lot of storage space that I will use for my school books. The smaller one fits nicely in the larger unit, is very light and has a nice top. When I opened the box, both units smelled like a horrible, extremely sickening chemical smell - maybe polyurethane, which is what leatherette is made of? I'm not sure but it was so bad I had to put the empty box on the patio until I could take it apart. After a bit of research, I mixed a solution of white vinegar and water in a spray bottle - 1/4 - 1 cup respectively - you can probably make 50/50. Spray onto each surface individually, wipe with a cloth in circular motions, repeat until dry and allow to air out. The smell is gone after drying and now smells like new leather. I can repeat the action one more time to eliminate even more smells, but now it's much better. The solution didn't harm the product, so I used the vinegar sparingly the first time. The goods had no visible damage upon delivery. All in all if the set holds up as it is I would highly recommend it for the price. I will update the durability after daily use if necessary.
