I am very happy with this stand. I didn't buy it as a laptop stand. I wanted to use it with a portable monitor that I use as a third display on my desk. Didn't have a case/stand for it, I wanted something more than a tablet version for about the same price. This works great with a few strips of double sided tape to keep the monitor upright. It's meaty and quite strong. It might be overkill for a portable monitor, but I'd rather have too much than too little. This allows me to increase the height and align the bottom of the screen with my 27" monitor for a smoother display setup. The brackets on the stand have enough space for cable management, which worries me about OCD (cable management). It was a welcome but unintended feature. I think they were designed to reduce weight (not very heavy as they are) but they gave me an added benefit to my application. As laptops go, this thing is definitely secure enough. for laptop support. After the screws are tightened, it doesn't move anywhere! I'd happily put a 17" gaming laptop on it if needed (I have an Acer Predator). If my settings change, I might use it that way later in the future.
