When the robbers stole my Canon cameras, I replaced them with Sony cameras. I need some flashes but having already bought Canon flashes at such high prices I was ready to see what a third party could do. I bought two of these a little over a year ago. Build quality on par with Canon. Light quality, coverage, uniformity and spread are no worse than my Canon flashes and less than half the price of the same performance. I bought two of these flashes to expand my kit to 4 flashes. They all communicate very well; I use one as a master to increase or decrease the power of the others without leaving my camera and recording. I also have one of their controllers in case I want all four flashes out of the camera - it works great too. I haven't tried them with large softboxes or umbrellas (other than the small ones that often come with them). ; I have several studio flashes for this type of work. I may try this in the future to be more portable. They seem to be doing a very good job with the battery life. I carry a boatload of batteries with me anyway so I haven't paid much attention to battery life but recently I've noticed I've taken 3 or 4 shots (I'm a real estate agent who used to shoot sideways professionally. I love photography, because I don't like the quality even with many pros here) with the same set of batteries with no problems - the camera has a longer range than the flash at both ends). If you are on the fence I would encourage you to give it a try. You'll spend a lot less than OEM and your images will be just as good.
