Over the years I have come to love Japanese books because of their instructions. They are certainly not for everyone. But for beading with little experience, the instructions for thread routing are sufficient. The instructions are full color and each bead shape is illustrated which makes a lot of sense. It took me a while to realize that the tiny black star was the beginning and the little black crescent was the end, but it wasn't hard to get over. There's a lot to like about this book: 1. Various projects - bracelets, rings (lots of rings!), necklace pendants, necklaces of different lengths, lanyards for glasses, hair clips, even leashes for cell phones - if you don't have a cell phone with a leash holder, you can easily use necklace patterns.2. Color photography and color directions. Makes turning the pages of a book like a walk in a garden. Also, the small format book costs $18 in paperback. At the end more information about methods and materials, all with many photos.4. Once you've learned the basic technique that Takako Samejima prefers, you can look at her ideas and start working on your own. I've found that circle weaving can be done with two needles, but using one like Samejima does makes the job easier. And a few things that might irritate the reader: 1. The book is perfectly bound, so you have to complain on both sides, to follow the diagram.2. There are tiny images on the tool pages so you can't tell pliers from pliers and wire cutters. 3. The author seems to prefer nylon threads which, if string, will fall apart in about five years. Use Nymo, Silamide, Fireline or for larger projects SoftFlex. Not. Memory wire is made of steel and can damage most jewelry tools. Use tools available at the hardware store or those specifically designed for memory cables. The book is fun and worth the money for beginners with little experience, intermediate crafters looking to expand their product range, and seasoned crafters who need a gallery to get inspiration. -started again.
