A lot of Cat5 and Cat5e cables have failed over the last few years so I needed a new 25ft ethernet cable or more and saw this Cat6 cable. I like that it has a flat shape so I can easily move it under the carpet or around the room. The advertising was a bit misleading by not claiming it was shielded, but digging further I found other information that claimed this cable was shielded. This is a priority for me as unshielded cables can be severely affected by attenuation and will wear out faster over time. I now spend a little more every day on a shielded cable. The Cat6 speed is nice too as it still works efficiently with my 100Base-T home LAN. My router is 100Base-T, my wired ethernet devices are at least 100Base-T, so I need at least 100Base-T cables. Whenever you have one part of the LAN that is slower than the rest, the entire LAN will slow down to that speed. Just going back to 10Base-T or upgrading everything to 1000Base-T (Gigabit) would be too expensive for me. The only thing I wanted was to be able to use this Cat6 cable specification - flat, shielded, large. then I could make my own. I'm old fashioned and would rather connect my house with a RJ45 ethernet cable as the wifi is still too easy to be hacked by strangers.
