Review on πŸ’‘ Apple 45W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter for MacBook Air: Reliable and Efficient Charging Solution by Preston Molden

Revainrating 2 out of 5

The power cord fails long before the product it's supposed to power!

As we all know, MacBook's MagSafe Power Adapter rarely lasts as long as its MacBook. I have a fifth adapter for my 2015 MacBook. That means it won't even last a year. Before that, they held even less. I'm careful, I strengthen the magnetic side of the Sugro cable and then the bus! I learned from the Apple Store that they will replace any MacSafe power adapter made by Apple for free. But they do it quietly. And you have to go to the Apple Store with the adapter in hand and look for the serial number etc. there. Well, I live in the outback. I'm only around the Apple Store when I'm FLYING for a day to visit people. So not how I would like to spend the time of my visit. For whatever reason, Apple never got around to fixing this design issue. This is their solution, which I feel lacks integrity, which I don't usually attribute to Apple. I suppose it has to be a business/financial decision, the significant cost of upgrading again (as far as I know they've redesigned it at least once) is the profits from the resale of MagSafe by people who don't me don't know I don't have the time or ability to claim a free replacement must be amazingly large despite the negative negative ratings/reviews. Having to swap out the power cord for something long before anything stops working, just back out. Sigh. But Apple laughs to the bank. Should have bought more Apple stock a long time ago! :( And unfortunately I have to buy another one today.

Pros
  • great product
Cons
  • really don't like it, everything is fine
