Review on Eton Grundig Satellit 750 Ultimate by Darrin Parasson

This radio is strange. (Satellite 750) First of all, the performance of GOOD.FM is simply outstanding. Picks up weak FM stations. Separation of strong FM signals from weaker ones is excellent. Ham radio reception is good when using a wire antenna outdoors. Good sound quality, SSB filter can be a bit wide but nice clarity and copy. Airline is good. I live between two airports and many of the frequencies I hear sound great. The sensitivity on shortwave and in the AM band is very good. Using only the whip antenna is good for FM broadcast and radio band. Sensitivity of AM broadcasts is good with the rotatable antenna on top of the radio. It's not the best I've heard, but very good. BAD now, and it's really only one, but a big one for me. I enjoy listening to the AM broadcast band, listening to talk radio games, etc. I found the wide AM filter a disaster. It's incredibly wide, at least 16kHz on my set. But that's not the worst. This is how the filter is set at the factory. When tuning into an AM station like 860. With a wide filter I found 860 very distorted. Then I set the slider to 865, after which the filter sound was muted, like a narrow filter. I also set it to 855, again muffled the sound like the filter was tight. Very strange ! I have over 40 radios and this has been a part of my life. I really wanted it to work. that's a great looking radio. Many things work well, but problems with a wide filter are unforgivable. For $329, Grundig should get it right. The narrow filter was good on my unit, but it's only about 4kHz wide, resulting in a muffled sound on AM and AM shortwave. Incidentally, these problems apply to both AM and shortwave.
