Feels like cork wood. They looked fine on the wall but I couldn't complain because there is no metal around the holes to secure the screw head in the hole. I bought this primarily for the jewelry hanging clips on the bottom so I will be using these and attaching to my current shelf to hold hair ties and hair ties.
