Review on πŸ”¦ Optilux 1200 Oval Halogen Fog Lamp Kit by HELLA: Black Housing, 12V/55W, White - Illuminate Your Path! by Jim Roberts

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Perfect for a 1998 4Runner

I've only had this installed for about 2 weeks so this rating is subject to change. The body, lenses and mounts are of high build quality - much heavier than I expected for the price. . The relay and wiring harness are of good quality but the built in switch felt like it belonged in a Barbie toy car. It was a small PCB push button switch that didn't fit in the panel and the button had so much play I was worried it might come loose. I replaced the included switch with a better quality AutoEC New 12V/20A Red LED Illuminated On/Off SPST Auto Toggle Switch to connect everything together. I'm not a fan of automotive wiring snap connectors, so I soldered the entire wiring harness and wrapped it in heat shrink tubing. The ground wires that came with each bulb were only about 4 inches long, so I connected them together to a common ground next to the heatsink mount. Exactly what I was looking for in terms of performance. I installed them under my bumper (about 16 inches off the ground) on the stock fog light mounts and they deliver a wide yellowish (3000k) beam that illuminates the roadside as well as the gap behind my stock low beam without anywhere near being glare. .My only issue is that there isn't a good way to properly seal the gap where the wiring enters the lamp body. I've used RTV silicone instead of a rubber plug on previous fog light installations, but they have vents on the bottom which makes sealing the plug pointless. Time will tell if these slits allow moisture to escape. All in all, buy yourself a few extra wires, a better switch and ground clips, and you can get yourself a nice set of fog lights.
