I had a regular ram mount that already contained my fish finder/GPS. Every time I was in less than ideal conditions, my GPS was crooked when I looked at it. I could pull and pull and it would still be a little sideways. I needed a stronger base. That's it. Although I had to make some adjustments to the overall height of the base (I ended up cutting the base, drilling new holes and attaching it to the boat) this is exactly what I was looking for. Strong - check. Movable - Check. There are enough holes to accommodate almost any unit. I like my new base. I think you too.
