Great for the price

I ordered this expecting that due to all the bad reviews I would need to fix/change something. I assembled this thing with no problems or frustrations. I got on it and it took all of my 190 pounds with no problem. I highly recommend this stool, it's a steal. The instructions were Ikea drawings. Pretty clear to read. I have a few tips on how to blend this item well. First try to insert all fasteners for each part before tightening them. Second, if things don't match up, loosen all the fasteners included in the part by about half. An example would be the two screws holding the top platform. There was a gap of about 1/4 inch between the parts and the screw would not thread. I untied both ends and was able to gently push down, filling the gap and running the bolt. I tightened the screw to hold it firmly against the platform, then re-tightened the end screws I had loosened. It's also very important that the ends of the cross braces are cut at a very slight angle, it's hard to see and it's not mentioned in the instructions. My decals have risen to fit in the correct orientation. Basically the stool gets a little narrower towards the top, so align the corner so the smaller side is up. I hope that makes sense. Some people said their bolts were too long and went through the platform, they may have given the wrong bolt length for those people. I would just be careful when you get to this step if they include the wrong length screws. It's also possible they used screws instead of bolts which would break the wood and go through the platform as described. TLDR: The stool is great, but it can be assembled incorrectly. Take your time and ask someone for help if necessary.
