The top doesn't open by itself

I love the softness of the bed but the top doesn't open. This is new to my cat and teaching him to lift the hood with his nose to get into the bag is not an easy task. He is an outdoor cat and semi-wild. Any suggestion on how to hold the hood would be greatly appreciated.
