Underwater, durable and great for kids

I just received the COOLPIX S33 waterproof excavation camera from Beach Camera. Shipping was fast and although refurbished the camera was perfect. No scratch on it. When we received it, it was almost fully charged, so we started using it right away. It was in a brown box and wrapped in bubble wrap but no information on the "Nikon" other than that it was refurbished by Nikon. No guides. Simply loaded with search. We've only been using the camera for a few days so it might be premature but I love the camera. I bought the camera mainly for my 5 year old instead of taking my DSLR with me. I was looking for a camera that would perform well in the pool and be a bit stiff. In the first part, the camera in the pool was fantastic. The underwater footage was fun, crisp, fast and bright. Outside the pool the footage was very good and clear. Overall, the camera has (so far) exceeded all expectations. The buttons are easy to use and navigate. I like that the video button is just a separate (single) button that you can press without switching modes or going into the menu. The image view button is also a one-click, which is a joy for my daughter to use and view. Deleting an image requires a few steps, which is a good safeguard against accidental deletion. One downside to the camera, which can only be a rookie mistake as I just got it and haven't gone through the entire manual yet, is underwater photography. Pictures, if you are not looking at the display, you can guess if a picture was taken. It would be nice if I could find a light that blinks when a photo is taken (instead of a flash). I was very satisfied and will probably buy this camera as a gift for my family. We didn't drop the camera and I won't test that aspect, but it seems solid. The S33 is no longer made so an overhaul is probably the only way to get it, but I can look at another COOLPIX model from Nikon that appears to be the next release. Another downside is the shutter release for my 5 year old. getting used to. Half press starts autofocus and full press takes a picture. Darker scenes require a half press before a full press to get good focus, meaning a slower button press. My daughter is pushing hard and we need to teach her how to push slowly and still have the strength to hold the camera steady. It's not a big problem, it's just a "don't forget to press slow" moment. She loves her camera and takes it with her everywhere. I'll let you know if my mind changes.
