USB 3.0 ports not showing up on Mac Mini M1

SD card reader works (can mount cards and navigate file system) and Type-C port works for charging but nothing what with a could be connected by them. The USB 3.0 port is visible to the host Mac Mini M1. The hub is normally displayed by the system under About This Mac (USB section) as a Genesys Logic USB hub. That's a huge disappointment considering the product description says everything is plug and play and Mac compatible.
