I recently purchased an ASUS VP32AQ monitor to complement my Microsoft Surface 4 laptop with the Surface Dock 2 port replicator. The Dock 2 has two USB-C ports with display support. Since the monitor has a DisplayPort (DP) connector and an HDMI connector, I bought two cables (and used one of each): USB-C to DisplayPort (DP) USB-C to HDMI. *Cable dependencies *In the Photos Under the OSD ( OSD), note the default display settings that seem to depend on the type of cable used: (1) When using a USB-C to DP cable, the screen resolution and refresh rate are: 2560 x 1440 @ 60Hz. ( 2) When using a USB-C to HDMI cable, the screen resolution and refresh rate are: 3840 x 2160 @ 30Hz (based on OSD). This resolution is questionable as the specification of this monitor is only WQHD (2560 x 1440). Using the Windows 11 settings display options (I'm not an expert in configuring these settings), I was able to set up the following: (1) Using a DisplayPort (DP) cable, I can set the resolution to 2560 x 1440 at 75 Hz. (2 ) With an HDMI cable I can adjust the resolution up to 2560 x 1440 @ 60Hz. I recommend a DisplayPort (DP) cable as it offers a higher refresh rate (75Hz) at the maximum screen resolution (2560 x 1440). Maybe an HDMI cable with the right display settings can perform the same. Unfortunately, ASUS didn't provide documentation and support for beginners like me. * ASUS tech support and documentation * One point I deduct for the marginal documentation and tech support: (a) There is no explanatory text in the VP32AQ quick start guide. several diagrams it contains. (b) The downloadable user manual for VP32A series monitors does not mention the reason for differences in display settings when using different cables (DP or HDMI). (c) The ASUS chat line just seems to take a very long time to resolve the issue. After this period, the agent abruptly ends the chat session.* Full display size *Previous reviews have identified a 1-2 inch black "border" around the screen, reducing the size of the display. I'm happy to report that when I came across the Windows 2560 x 1440 display configuration option, it wasn't a problem. Check out the photo of the recording artist (Kina Grannis) on VP32AQ below. Content stretches to the edge of the screen!
