I bought these shoes because I'm a little small for my bike and needed about an inch of extra height to stand over the frame. These shoes give me the slight increase in height I was looking for without being too "platform" or making walking difficult or twisting my ankles. Shoes aren't as flexible or springy as they seem. The band is made of hard plastic with rubber pads on the bottom. Perfect for my purpose but if you are looking for a soft flexible shoe look no further. They are comfortable to wear. I usually wear a size 7.5 although it can vary by brand. I bought these 8 and they fit well - not too tight but comfortable when wearing cotton jersey socks. I don't plan on long walks in them so I can't attest to that aspect of comfort, but for long distance cycling these shoes were perfectly comfortable. They didn't have any rough edges on the inside that could rub against your feet. The rubber pads on the pedals didn't slide well. You don't need shoelaces. In fact, I dropped her. They fit like a sock and wrap completely around the foot. I bought the red color for better visibility and the color is bright as I hoped.
