Thin aluminum flexible hose hood. If you drop or dangle your showerhead, the outer casing will crack and break where the hose attaches to the shower pipe. The inner lining that transports the water is thin silicone. Without the support of the outer case, it will crack. So a word of caution: don't drop the showerhead or strain the hose. An alternative, at least for the hose that came with my Delta showerhead, is a hard plastic hose. This hose had tapered ends to fit the support rod. The plastic on these pointed ends is too flimsy. They break easily if the hose is overtightened even slightly, or if the shower head is dropped.
