Over time I've bought 10 of these pillows for the small travel pillows we use on our sofa for different types of support for our aged bodies! Yes. They are not soft UNTIL they have been washed a few times. Yes. They are a little wrinkled after washing and drying. I confess I iron all the pillowcases and the tops of the sheets because they need to be smooth. BUT after 2 washes and a quick steam iron (it only takes a minute!) they are very soft and comfortable. I would not hesitate to use it on infants or children after that little time and effort it takes to soften them. I just ordered more! You'll have to knead pillows in them, but for the price, minimal washing, and quick ironing, they're worth buying!
