I have a lilac mattress and it is very heavy. I was moving and needed some help moving it. It really flexes and I have nothing to hold on to so I needed something to cover it. Also, the mattress is expensive, and getting dirty or torn will void the warranty. So I needed something to protect him. I bought this mattress topper because it was like a tarp and had handles for us to hold on to. The handles couldn't support the weight of the mattress and started tearing immediately, but the material of the tarpaulin at least gave us a grip when moving the mattress. Can't comment on the water resistance as it was in a moving truck and was in the profile itself for about an hour. When I fixed the mattress I thought it was very cheap and I was afraid it would break but it has held up really well. Overall I am satisfied with this product. I'm sure unless your mattress is made out of 250 pounds of rubber the handles will hold up better than mine.
