I've just started planing so I knew I was going to cut myself so bought this and the index finger guard. I'm a woman with small hands but long thin fingers so I figured the medium might suit me. I wish there was a smaller size but I haven't seen it with prime shipping and now that I have it it's too long for my thumb. It's also too thick for my thumb. I know most carvers are older men, so I'm not surprised that this isn't the best option. I've found the guard to swing around my thumb when planing, so it's not the safest thing in the world. You can't see it in the photos but there are elastic straps on the back, one covers the entire tip of the thumb and the other is at the base to hold it on the thumb. The bottom band is too low for my thumb so it constantly pushes it up which is a bit uncomfortable. I plan to make some sewing modifications to make it fit better. I just wish there was a smaller option or the strap on the back was bigger so I didn't have to fasten it to fit my hand perfectly. The product itself is excellent but not suitable for me. If you had big man hands, that would probably be good. It's too big for a woman with thin fingers.
