I’ve been using it recently, but I’ve already appreciated the strengths, and you can and should fight against the shortcomings of the auto mode - that’s why it’s a DSLR, in order to fully open up only in capable hands - which I will strive for! As I already wrote in the discussions, the advantages: 1. matrix from the "semi-professional" D7000: the light sensitivity is simply excellent, at ISO 800 the picture is almost perfect, at 3200 (!) it starts to make noise, but still corrected by Photoshop. On a car, for some reason he likes to bully the ISO, so I artificially limited them to 800 units. I really liked the quality of the translation of NEF (Nikon RAW) to JPG: when saving a photo in both formats with JPG set to "Fine", I could not find the difference between them with a magnifying glass! Therefore, I decided to leave NEFs only for super-important photos, or extreme lighting conditions, when you need to stretch half-black / white photos. By the way, in the D90 so praised by many, when converting a photo from NEF to JPG at standard settings, the faces turn unnaturally yellow, and to smooth out the existing "friability" of the raw NEF (in the D5100 they seemed smoother to me), you have to sacrifice detail! The D5100 does not have these features, which pleases and invigorates! 2. The HDR mode is well implemented - with high-contrast transitions, the picture is perceived "as the eyes see", and not with any dominant levels. True, if the object is moving, it can capture it with a "phantom") Also, sometimes a "light" option is also quite good - active D-lighting. 3. Folding rotary screen (photo below, above, front .) 4. Built-in flash! I compared it with the main competitor (Canon), not in favor of the latter: the background illuminates evenly throughout the frame, even if it is removed (up to reasonable limits, of course), the subject does not overexpose, there are almost no glare! 5. Customizability: immediately removed the normal JPG quality: Fine is much better; everything is regulated, although it is required to understand and delve into.
