I think now I know what people are complaining about, the smell. Yes it does have a bit of a strong odor but it's no smoke or contaminants - it's what I expected from beeswax that has been melted and may have reached a higher temperature than it should. I say "probably" because I'm not sure if it burned. Assuming the bar you just received is typical (no reason to believe otherwise), then some people simply mistake the smell for what it appears to be. most similar. Obviously I can't be sure without sniffing the wax they complained about. I have a hard time believing that this company's products are as incompatible as the reviews suggest. Some reviews are clearly of a different product (e.g. bar reviews mention pellets) so all or most of these reviews may well be of a different product. The stick will stop Luffy (my cat, not the manga/anime character) from buffing it completely. Every time I move with my stick, he immediately licks my stick as I walk and only stops when I put it down. heh Woodworker cat, who would have thought?
