Review on ๐ŸŽฎ iPega-PG-9083S Wireless Phone Joystick Game Controller for Samsung/Huawei Android Smartphones & Tablets (Android 6.0+) by David Merculief

Not quite plug and play

This controller supports many games on Android Market that are gamepad compatible, it is solid and well made and its layout is perfect for FPS or racing games. It also reportedly works for Nintendo Switch and custom app development like Rasberry Pie (although this reviewer hasn't confirmed that fact, several other reviewers here have). However, it doesn't work with every Android game, so buyers should be prepared. Personally, I wasn't expecting plug and play, but I also didn't expect to have to download a weird, ad-laden Chinese emulator app called "Octopus" to map controls in games that lack controller recognition or natives mapping is missing. Capabilities. As for the Octopus emulator, I can't recommend it - I found it to be an odd mix of English and Chinese, and you have to watch or react to advertisements for almost every move you make in the game. (even between levels in some games) which is very annoying even for a free app. Additionally, Octopus requires an unusually high level of access to your device's media, contacts, and camera, and even needs access to make calls! If you deny any of these access levels, you will not be able to use the emulator at all. You might be thinking "Dude, looks like you've been scammed" but the Octopus app is offered in the provided Ipega controller documentation and I haven't found any other compatible emulators for this gamepad (but to be fair be, the reader might have more success there). Octopus somehow works with games that don't normally support this gamepad, but you have to run them from this weird little emulator environment. As mentioned the controller itself is of good quality and my tablet is Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and Samsung 8 inch. Both fit snugly on the grip and both devices will easily recognize this Ipega controller via Bluetooth. Overall, this is a pretty solid controller for the money, but don't expect it to work with every Android-compatible game. You should also understand that you may need to run some games from a supported emulator environment. So make sure it works with the games you play and you won't be disappointed. This is a quality controller for under $30.
