My cat had a basic scratching post but after buying this she is using it to the point where I am considering getting rid of the basic scratching post. She loves it, she likes to use the big mushroom to stretch and then grab the mushroom's head to sharpen her claws. She even stopped trying to test her claws on both the couch and our feet. My other cat, who has never sharpened her claws in her life, just loves to lick artificial grass (he's never had artificial grass strands) for the texture and the noise it makes. I actually only got the big mushroom down, and that's because my cat used it so many times that it ended up spinning where it wasn't right on the board.
