The cable works great with my Macbook Pro and my Imac as a second monitor. I've toned a Thunderbolt cable to no avail, but that's because my iMac doesn't have Thunderbolt capability (hey, I've been trying anyway since I had the cable), then I have a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter Tried with a DisplayPort to HDMI connector without a cable. much luck. Finally, it only works for iMac Display Port to MacBook Pro/Lightning Port Display, but if you have a Lightning port on both Macbook and iMac, a Lightning* cable should work. It should be noted that I *think/have been told that new 5k Retina iMacs will no longer support the target display.
