UCEC Y connector - good build quality but poor audio design

I love listening to music in all forms. I've been happy with my $1,200 fairly modest sound system with regular banana plugs for the last 2 years. Some people think spade connectors make better contact with the speaker pins. So I ordered this product because of the appealing look and the good reviews. The package arrived in a beautiful jewelry box. I have to say that the connections are very well made. But one day I replaced a set of 4 with a single speaker and compared it to the original setup. I can hear the difference immediately within 15 minutes of playing the songs. To my surprise, it is the speaker equipped with this flat connector that sounds rather dull and flat. The design of this spade connector consists of 2 parts that connect together. What I think is an error in the transmission of audio signals. Part A is a silver colored "shoe" that tightens the speaker wire threads. Part B is a gold colored "plug" for connection to the speaker stands. So the amplifier signal has to go through the 2 material panels (screwed together) to get to the speaker. I think if the "shoe" and "fork" were made from the same piece, the signal path would be more direct and cleaner.

Pros
  • Speaker cable
Cons
  • Vulgarity
