Polished wood is good because it gives off a vintage vibe (although I don't really like vintage stuff - I'm a modern guy [ Progressive, atheistic, futuristic .works.]). However, the polished texture has a serious design flaw; The roller is INCREDIBLY difficult to keep in place as it can only be used on one type of surface: rubber. Yes, try rolling your back onto the carpet - it will slide off. Will slip on any other surface unless you are using a non-slip yoga mat. They had to develop a non-slip product. Also be careful if you use it on your back for long periods of time, bruising may occur (but this is true of all gravity-induced pressure equipment).
