Review on 🎧 Altec Lansing MZX635 True Wireless Earbuds: Compact, Waterproof Headphones with Portable Charging Case by Nick Childs

Decent sound quality, but the right earbud often cuts out

First off, let me say that the packaging on these headphones is some of the most informative and well designed packaging I've seen. Almost everything you want to know is right there on the box, and when you open the front flap you can see everything is included right there. Packaging design is sometimes overlooked (by companies and consumers alike) but I can appreciate good design in all aspects of a product and this one definitely hits the mark. Great first impression! The packaging is inevitably thrown away and it's what's inside that counts here, so how are the headphones faring? Everything you get is in the first photo I uploaded (user manual, earphones + charging case, charging cable, 4 earbuds and 4 extra earbuds of different sizes). The earbuds will pair automatically when you take them out of the charging case, which is easy enough. From there, simply select your headphones in your phone's (or other device's) Bluetooth settings and connect. The sound quality is decent, but the highs are really lacking. While an equalizer app can improve this a bit, your options in this area are rather limited if you typically stream music rather than playing it directly from your device. While the sound quality is satisfactory, I had an issue with the right earbud disconnecting and reconnecting at least a few times per song. Sometimes when I was adjusting the right earcup, it seemed like a simple touch would disconnect (or in some cases reconnect if it was already disconnected at the time). These aren't the first headphones to suffer - it could be a quality control issue, or just the nature of packing lots of tiny electronics into a small, seemingly fragile container, but that's definitely not the case. That's good, and companies should do better. The guide suggests downloading the company's app to explore supposed additional features, but you don't have to spend your time doing so. These headphones weren't even listed as something to select and/or turn on in the app itself, and the app basically exists for informational purposes related to this article. It does not offer any improvements to the product. Finally, the on-ear headphones seemed largely useless to me. I tried to use them but they are too thin and not suitable for wearing in the ear. A good idea for those who like having options on how to wear these headphones, but unfortunately they didn't fit me. Overall, while these headphones were okay, I think there are better headphones out there. Maybe I just got a bad right earbud, but even if it worked well, the sound quality still leaves something to be desired.

Pros
  • Sweatproof and waterproof: IPX4 sweatproof and waterproof ensure your True Connect headphones are protected from spontaneous rain or intense exercise. Don't sweat!
Cons
  • Great Price
