Review on ๐Ÿ–จ๏ธ MP10 Mini 3D Printer by Monoprice by William Bell

Good printer, few bugs, non-existent support

This will be my third Monoprice printer because I'm a dumb dumbass who didn't learn my lesson from the first (/they finished the second around my previous one substitute another model). Good Features: - Feature rich for the price - probably nothing on the market like it. All metal hot end, ABL, filament sensor, $250, works extremely competitively (if they all work) - Easy install, solid construction - Magnetic print head is really an innovation and should be widely copied - it makes cleaning/maintenance a breeze . - The manual is surprisingly helpful - if you buy this follow each one step by step and adjust your offset etc. The Bad: - The firmware is terrible and full of bugs. Trying ABL without homing results in a terrible error with no possibility of aborting outside of a hard power cycle. Pausing the print and going into the setup menu that appears causes the Z-axis to go up another 10mm, completely messing up the print. The touchscreen is just bad. Phantom inputs that happen to not accept input will work. It's easy to get past - you don't use it much anyway. - The glow sensor has no real use due to the terrible firmware. When a filament strike is triggered, the print stops, you add a new filament and. There's no way to feed and refuel it before continuing to print. There's no way to activate the electric motor without canceling the print, making one of the advertised features almost useless (you can push the filament through the filament manually, but it's difficult and not recommended). Deformed platform and/or ABL sensor not working properly - the back left corner of my bed does not align properly with the ABL and requires a quarter or half turn manual rotation to get EVERYTHING to stick to the bed in that quadrant every time I use the ABL sensor. It's extremely annoying, inaccurate, and removes the basic convenience of a printer compared to, say, an Ender 3. I've tested this extensively. YMMV, but that brings us to Ugly: Monoprice has the worst customer service of any technology vendor/manufacturer I've worked with. As of this writing, I have submitted three separate requests regarding the above issues and despite promising to get back to me within 1 business day, 72 hours have passed. My previous printer had technical issues, then technical issues with a replacement printer, culminating in a workaround where I was told I would have to wait a month to replace the defective printer that was sent to me. I finally guessed the executives' email address, and it was corrected almost immediately. I bought this (naively) thinking my previous experience was a fluke and my printer skills/knowledge had greatly improved. I was wrong. I don't know who they outsource or if they just need a major in-house overhaul, but when you buy this printer **BE YOU**. Do not expect adequate service or support. I have worked several times directly with Chinese manufacturers via Google Translate with better CS skills and response times than this California based company.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
