We're using this with an antique wooden chair with no straps. The movement will most likely be great extra support for a high chair with straps. Pros: Helps my 9 month old not to slide off the high chair, comfortable to wear around the waist. to wash if food gets on it. It would be very nice if covered with high quality vinyl that doesn't crack when flexed. It would also be helpful if there was an adaptive piece that could be attached to hold the baby's butt in place as it can still slip out of the harness a bit.
