A good tent, but not a tourist tent.

of 5 in my book. I recently took this tent on a hike up Grandpa Mountain in North Carolina. Overall this is a good tent with some caveats. My first problem is the weight. It's marketed as a lightweight "camping tent" but after packing it up the mountain I have to say it's NOT light. Medium weight is about where I would put it. My second issue with this tent is the zippers on the raincover. The zippers are sewn in where they need to make a sharp turn towards the end of the action. The zippers…

Great for the price

I recently had the opportunity to use it on a 2 day camping trip. Comes with tent body, raincover, poles and 8 pegs <which I bought from REI> and a base size designed for this ALPS Mountaineering Mystique 1.5 Tent Floor Saver tent. The weight was 4 pounds 13 ounces. I haven't used any stretches and 8 bets seems like the right amount. I was able to fit all of the above items into the storage bag that came with the tent. Pictured everything in a duffel bag versus a 32 ounce Nalgene. I'm 6ft

Pros
  • All weather tent protects against water, UV rays and stays taut in all weather conditions
Cons
  • Very expensive

Five Year Review - Camping

Firstly I have owned this tent for 5 years. I use it frequently. I enjoy mountaineering, I have spent years with the BSA organization and now it is used for a Civil Air Patrol campground. There are three pieces of gear I can't live without: my Helinox chair, my Thermarest mat, and my ALPS tent. Fun Fact: I'm lying on my thermals in my ALPS tent as I write this review. Looking back on yesterday, I can say that I was the first one at camp to set up this tent. It has been assembled and broken many

  • Broadly ok but...

I bought this tent 18 months ago but just last weekend I had the opportunity to use it for the first time. I love it! I wasn't able to fully unfold it before a trip, but the instructions in the carry case were simple, clear and very easy to understand. I had it done in no time. I camped at the IndyCar track by car. Whilst weight was not an issue, the tent and everything needed to set it up, even with the extra cover, is very light and should be able to carry most campers with ease. My friends…

A clear winner on a budget

I've had this tent 4 times. My first impressions were phenomenal. I chose the 1.5 version of Mystique because it offers extra space without the extra weight compared to the 1.0 version. This allows me to take my 65 pounds with me. dog and keep him inside and warm, it also allows me to take my backpack and all my gear with me on solo trips in less desirable conditions like rain. The double lobbies allow for LOTS of indoor storage space, more than I would ever really need. It can also be entered…
