Description of DANIEL SMITH Extra Fine Watercolor: Manganese Blue Hue - 15ml Tube

DANIEL SMITH is the Innovative Manufacturer of Beautiful Watercolors for Artists Worldwide, and makes the largest range of watercolors of any manufacturer, more than 240 colors. The 240+ color collection includes the exciting PrimaTek watercolors made from minerals (like Amethyst) plus other unique colors (like Moonglow) not available elsewhere, and Luminescent Watercolors which allow artists to capture the luminescent colors that exist in nature that regular watercolors cannot capture!. This cool turquoise blue is ideal for creating form or indicating space. It is a medium-staining, transparent pigment with wonderful granulating properties. A good substitute for Cerulean Blue, Manganese Blue Hue offers an additional advantage: it mixes well with non-staining, semi-opaques to create a mottled texture in underlying colors. Note: true Manganese Blue, discontinued from product lines due to environmental concerns and toxic by-product, has been replaced in the DANIEL SMITH line with a formulation which closely resembles it. The result is a safe, high quality lightfast pigment with the color we adore - Manganese Blue Hue. Very Good Lightfastness, Transparent, Granulating, Medium staining. PB 15. Conforms to ASTM D4236.

Beautiful translucent color

I love Daniel Smith watercolors. It's a soft, translucent blue that goes well with my paintings. Fast shipping too.

Pros
  • This cool turquoise blue is perfect for creating a shape or defining a space. It is a medium color, transparent pigment with excellent granulating properties. Manganese Blue, a good substitute for Cerulean Blue, has the added benefit of mixing well with non-staining, translucent colors, creating a mottled texture in primary colors. Note: True Manganese Blue has been discontinued due to environmental concerns and toxic by-products and has been replaced in the DANIEL SMITH line with a formulation very similar to this. The result is a safe, high-quality, lightfast pigment in our favorite shade, Marganese Blue Hue.
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something

Love this color for summer skies

I love this color for summer skies and I love how I can change it up a bit and get darker patches and really smooth skies. This is the most expensive paint I have ever used BUT don't let the price put you off; it's so smooth it's instinct

Pros
  • Arts, Crafts & Sewing
Cons
  • High Price

Great product in Painting

I have bought LOTS of watercolors over the last 30 years but none by Daniel Smith. I am very impressed with their products and will be using more of their brand. I spend about 4 hours a day painting so I think I know a good brand when I see one. Actually, I bought this exact color to try, not the blue I've always used. This is a great shade and when painting old buildings and barns it blends in perfectly with the Moss and Rust shade. Also makes a nice blur of the sky.

Cons
  • Only available in white

Excellent manganese blue.

I love manganese blue. Much more than Cerulean. As an artist friend said, "I love this bright blue" and it definitely lives up to it. I'm switching from Winsor & Newton because I don't like the size of those 5ml tubes so I can pay the same amount for Daniel Smith and get MUCH more without paying MUCH more. So much better on the wallet. So when I've gone through the rest of my Winsor&Newton, my palette will be MGraham and Daniel Smith.
