This is perfect for a padded A5 planner binder. I have it on mine right now. It holds pens and pencils in even if you turn the planner upside-down briefly, even with some movement. It may make it harder to write, depending on which side you put it on, which side you write on more, and which surface the planner is on, but it's still easier than trying to write over a zipper pouch full of pens. It's a clever design and it's really well made.

I didn't even realize that larger pen pocket holders like this existed until I did a wider 'search' after being disappointed with the single-loop style pen holders. This one holds all the pens I need. Only downside is that it's a little loose on my A-5 notebook. But it does stay on, & I can slide it off easily -- so is that a downside?

Exactly what I was looking for! Straps easily to my planner and give me lots of space for my colored pens. Even has a small front pocket that's perfect for a small pad of post-it notes. I slid my calendar stickers underneath and I'm ready for the year!
