This is a fantastic mascara and happens to be less than $5. The mascara came in a protective plastic packaging. I tested this for several days. I am very active outdoors and have trouble finding mascara that lasts. This mascara is perfect for casual everyday wear. I have sensitive eyes and this mascara didn't irritate my eyes, removed easily, didn't smudge, chip, tighten or stick. My very light and thin eyelashes also looked voluminous. The brush is quite long and more likely to land on the eyelid accidentally (btw if this happens let it dry and then scrape it off so it doesn't smear and smudge your look), but otherwise this product is very good and easy to use. I like a more natural look so I usually only apply mascara to the roots of my lashes and because the brush is on the thinner side it's easy to do and it creates a fluffy and full look.
