This compass is very well made and accurate. I checked it on the GPS alignment and found it dead. The price is ideal for student use and participation!

The first unit had a cap button that was sticking, preventing the needle from moving. The replacement device has an off-center needle, meaning the N and S poles of the needle are only 179 degrees apart, not 180. See photo. This is too big an error to use for topographic surveys, so let's go back.

I have used K&E, Brunton and other Mil Spec adapters over the years. When I ordered this I wasn't expecting much. WOW. It really works. Low weight due to composite body. It has a strong magnet. it's accurate enough (at least what I have). And if I throw him off the cliff into the rocks and dirt. i won't cry I might just order another one as a backup. Never take anything into the field that you cannot afford to lose.

There's practically nothing good to say about this. Cheap plastic construction, nothing works on it and looks like most of it was just added to give it a cool and functional look. You must have paid for the positive reviews, which is unfortunately very common on this horrible site. There is only 1 star because I have to give it 1 star. It deserves a 0. Save your money and buy Cammenga instead. I'll use mine as a shotgun target.

They spent money when it counted. All plastic. Super cheap. Polished plastic mirror. But the needle goes straight north/south and locks into place when you close the lid so the needle doesn't get recycled or damaged. If you are looking for a great compass that performs like a more expensive one then this is it. Just note that they've reduced the price of everything else to focus on what matters most. Don't drop it. Don't put it in water. Watch the compass.

I've always wanted a simple version of Brunton's functional compass and I'm glad I found it. It's everything you'd expect from any other standard Brunton, but on the outside it's made of cheaper stuff. It even comes with a threaded case that attaches to your belt (it's also cheap, but very handy). Haven't used it in the field yet, but it doesn't look like it will stand up to rough handling and wear and tear for very long. But for $20 it's STEAL and the only option for less than $300-400.

The hardest part about this item was opening it for the first time! The hinges are very tight and the instructions are not well written for those who read English. "Insert coin into slot and rotate" would be helpful and would probably save me some time. To update. I just noticed that E(ast) and W(est) got swapped! In addition, after opening the compass several times, one of the hinges broke off the plastic. Seems I was too hasty in writing my original review.

The Funtalker Compass is a good little compass but it has a few drawbacks compared to other similar compasses in this price range. The clear lens above the needle is made of plastic, which isn't as scratch-resistant as the glass surfaces of other devices. Accuracy is very good and the induction-damped needle settles down very quickly after movement. Prime unit. I bought this compass to use at work rather than risk losing my old DW Brunton Pocket Transit. My antiques are molded aluminum and brass, although this one is molded plastic and is fairly light. Plastic is not a problem for me at all. The calculation that I could get another one in a short time and at a reasonable price saved me from worrying about losing it.
