HLB smaller than SMD

I didn't install them. The headlights I ordered came in packages as if they were used. Returned. I ordered same size Halo SMD 6" 5000k round finish. HLB is smaller compared to SMD. SMD does not require a junction box or housing. SMD has a brightness of 600 lumens.

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • Good but not great

Flickering after a year of use!

There are more than 115 of these in my newly built house. A little over a year later, more than 4 of those light bulbs in the house started blinking. That issue aside, these are great lights. I have 38 of these on a 13 1/2 foot ceiling and they work great.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Not bad, but...

Wow bright for recessed lighting

Wow bright I was planning to put 3 in our dressing room. After installing 2 we decided it was bright enough. Very easy to install. I used a box cut from their pattern. It became easier to draw on the ceiling. Use a spike finder to make sure you don't hit anything. Plan to go bigger and try the 4 inch size.

Pros
  • practical item
Cons
  • slightly wrinkled

Edge too small for electric

Brightness is good and great that you can adjust the color temperature. However, the small rim on these headlights is an absolute deal breaker. With the included stencil you only have about 1/8 inch tolerance extending beyond the line before it is covered by the edge of the light. If the drywall gets even a tiny chip from cutting a hole, it will be visible after installation.

Pros
  • Delivers up to 1150 lumens
Cons

Fitting instructions are useless

I wasn't sure if the electrical box should touch the insulation or be mounted higher on the truss or rafters. The instructions say "install the box according to local electrical codes" which is utterly useless to the DIYer. I ended up putting the box on the truss just for safety, but that limited where I could place the light because the cable from the box to the light is short.

Pros
  • Direct fitting - no flush box or junction box required
Cons
  • Available in white only

Great dimming function!

I first bought LED bulbs from Costco but they only dimmed about 30% before flickering (I have a Lutron TGCL-153PR- WH dimmer installed). I then bought a Revain Tayola LED bulb with the same result, only dimmed about 30% before flickering. I then bought a HALO HLB6099FS1EMWR from Revain. YES, no flicker when dimming down to barely on light. Fiction! I only gave it 3 stars for installation because it can't use an existing 3 or 4" hole on an old jig, it needs a 6" hole. Not a big problem but it…

Pros
  • 2700, 3000, 3500, 4000 and 5000K field selectable CCT
Cons
  • No automatic
