Note that any dog door with vinyl flaps will need to be replaced. I've had to change mine three times in five years, and two doors are expensive. I have two dobermans and two small dogs. The dobs are in and out all day, and the flaps take on a permanent bulge where pressed. Unfortunately, a dob doesn't fit through the hard hinged door.

I live in Phoenix, Arizona so the summers are very hot here. The old dog flap let in so much warmth. We installed an extra large 100lb dog flap that really keeps the heat out with the double flap. I routed it through the stucco exterior wall to the covered patio and it turned out really nice. The husband installed it with no problems (they also ordered a rough weather door panel). Happy dog, happy family. I highly recommend this door.

there are a few things to note: The template that came with the door is not the right size for the hole needed. It's hard to imagine how that could be, but it's true. Measure the block itself to determine the required hole size. Despite claiming the unit fits 1 3/8" to 2" doors, the 4 angle screws provided are too short to work with a 1 3/4" door. The door is excellent and appears to be energy efficient. But it says it's easy to install. I beg to differ. I followed the instructions and it looks great but the outline they give you to make the hole was too small. After making the hole I had to try to enlarge it, which is quite difficult with a jigsaw and an aluminum door. Drilling holes in the door to attach the screws was easy, but the screws they gave me weren't long enough. So I had to put my project on hold until I got to the hardware…

I have previously purchased one of the telescoping doors of the same size and manufacture. it was during the year. it was big, bulky, couldn't have a vacuum underneath because it was sticking out of the door 2 inches on each side. 4 inches between valves. Therefore, it is difficult for dachshunds / short-legged dogs to survive this. That's why I bought this door. I appreciate all the feedback here so they gave me an idea of what to expect.
