I love this movie!

This is my standard film. I shoot at 400 ISO and it does a great job with the extra light and gives me slightly more saturated images. Never had a problem ordering from Revain, I always get good rolls with a limited expiry date.

Pros
  • Even captures background nuances in low light
Cons
  • Big and chunky

Lack of sharpness

From my experience shooting this film in both 35mm and 120 I have to say that the 35- mm versions of the Portra 800 do not offer enough sharpness Clarity seen in the 120 version. Of course this has a lot to do with the different formats, but overall I got better results with the Portra 400 stopped down than with the Portra 800 35mm.

Pros
  • Press 1600 if you need extra speed
Cons
  • Cord is shorter than other picks

Fantastic colors in daylight

I'm new to filmmaking so take this with caution. [Shot on Nikon F3, no motor] I bought the Portra 800 for my sister's bachelorette party on the beach when I was hearing amazing things about skin tones. I was very impressed with the color quality of the day! However, it wasn't a fantasy film for the more boring scenes where a lot of grain and greenish tones were brought into the picture. So if you want to photograph an outdoor wedding, that's great. If you're looking for something to shoot in…

Pros
  • all the benefits of fast film with top grain; perfect for long lenses, action scenes and low light
Cons
  • Something different
