Description of ๐Ÿ”Œ LandingZone Dock Express Secure Docking Station for MacBook Pro A1398 Retina Display (15-inch)

The LandingZone DOCK Express is designed for either the 13-inch [Model A1425 or A1502] or the 15-inch [Model A1398] MacBook Pro with Retina display. Please purchase the correct LandingZone model and size for your MacBook model and screen size. The LandingZone DOCK Express is not compatible with the new MacBook Pro that has USB Type-C Ports, with or without Touch Bar. Single-step, dual displays: Mini DisplayPort supports Apple Thunderbolt Display, other non-Thunderbolt monitors and Thunderbolt devices; HDMI supports external displays, TVs, and monitors. The following ports on the MacBook remain accessible while docked to the LandingZone: the Headphone port, SDXC card slot, a Thunderbolt. port, a USB 3.0 port (all separate from those on the dock), and the MagSafe 2 (the dock provides a holder for this power cord). The LandingZone does not work with MagSafe to MagSafe2 converter. The LandingZone DOCK Express comes with a built-in Kensington Security Slot. Connect a Kensington Security Lock to the LandingZone DOCK Express to secure both the LandingZone and the MacBook.

. It was more expensive for work but I like this one better

I had a more expensive one for work but I like this one better. It has fewer ports and seems easier to work with my Macbook. I don't really miss the extra USB ports, especially since I can just add an external hub, which is a lot less than paying another $100 for a big dock.

Cons
  • Unfashionable

Very functional docking station

This docking station is well made and easy to use. It stays installed in my office. I just walk in and drop my laptop and close it in place. It saves time and nerves of connecting everything when I get to my office. The only thing to note is that it does not work with an external hard case. You must remove these first. Other than that, it's great.

Cons
  • Ugly packaging

Works very well once you get used to it!

Very happy with this docking station. fulfills the task for which it is intended. This takes some getting used to as you need to align the machine properly to ensure the dock fits. But once you get used to it, the experience is pretty smooth. However, if you have used docks for Windows computers in the past, you have a distinct sense of the lack of port capabilities that a Windows computer offers.

I wish I had found this sooner. me originally.

I wish I had found this sooner. I originally bought an expensive Thunderbolt extension/dock but had to find another solution when I switched to dual monitors - Thunderbolt docks require at least one Thunderbolt monitor which is expensive and hard to find these days. Convenient in its simplicity, the LandingZone Dock offers HDMI and Thunderbolt ports for connecting a monitor; Works flawlessly with two 24" Dell monitors. We chose the vertical hedge dock because it offers the flexibility to useโ€ฆ

Cannot recommend this product.

My expectations were based on my previous experience with manufacturer-supplied laptop docking stations. As a result, I expected too much from this dock. It does its job of providing dedicated space on my desktop, but docking it isn't a smooth activity. Port alignment is an issue every time. Since the BIOS does not know the docking station, all externally connected storage devices must be removed manually or they will give an error. UPDATE 9/12/17 Within a few months all ports built into theโ€ฆ

Excellent "minimal " docking station

So my use case isn't exactly portable, although I imagine it could be easily portable (with some protection!). and separating things back and forth as I currently have a setup with two external monitors and a USB hub with a bunch of different charging cables. PROS1. Cleanliness - Definitely helped solve some of my wiring issues (even when combined with other wiring methods like cable sleeves)2. Ease of use - Docking and undocking is pretty easy and hasn't been a problem so far. CONS1. Theโ€ฆ

Cons
  • Some issues

I bought these for my work computer as soon as I got rid of my second work computer, a PC. There are two models for the 13-inch Retina, one for $99 (this one) and one for $199 (the 13-inch LandingZone DOCK for MacBook Pro with Retina display models A1425 and A1502) . The reason I bought this model (besides the price) was actually the fact that it has NO ports on the back. I have to plug and unplug USB sticks a lot, so it would be difficult to investigate behind my computer. I already bought aโ€ฆ
